Fields Tribal Nations
Tribal Nations films. In their own voices.
We make public health, education and civic films with tribal communities, told in their own voices.
How we think about it
Research first, then listen.
We make public health, education and civic films with the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, which represents 21 tribal nations. The lesson has been the same every time: do the research first, then let community members tell their own stories.

Here's the short version:
- 01
Who we work with
We work with tribal governments, councils and tribal health programs.
- 02
How we help
We do the research first, then film leaders and community members telling their own stories, on location.
- 03
What we make
We make public health, education, civic and cultural films.
- 04
Where it plays
The films play at community events, in clinics, on tribal media and across social.
Many communities have good reason to doubt messages from outside, so our research looks for that history before we plan anything. That way the film speaks to it instead of around it. Leaders, elders, mothers and young voters speak for themselves, with no outside narrator. We film where people live and work, and we ask before we point a camera at anything. Here's some of the work we've made together:

Case studies
How a few projects went.
We wrote up a few projects from start to finish, with the research behind them and the numbers around them:
-

Education
ITCA WIC: Welcome to WIC
A welcome film, a series of short guides and Dear Mom, so tribal families trust WIC enough to enroll and know what to do once they have.
-
Awareness
ITCA TEC: Vaccine education
Tribal health leaders explain vaccines to their own communities, in their own words.
Questions
What people usually ask us.
Here are the two questions we hear most often, with our answers:
Have you worked with tribal governments before?
Yes. Our work for the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona includes WIC nutrition PSAs, vaccine education for its Tribal Epidemiology Center and Your Voice, Your Power, a 10-part docuseries on tribal voting.
What does a SITREP add to a film for tribal communities?
It finds the real barrier before we film. For ITCA's WIC program, our research showed the problem was trust, not awareness, and that changed the whole direction of the films.

Other places we work.
We bring the same research and care to every field we work in. Here are the others:

We'd love to hear your story.
Tell us what you're working on, even if it's only a hunch so far. We'll find out whose story it really is, and then we'll help you tell it. The easiest way to start is to write to us here:
